Online Choreographic Mentorship Program, is an Online 1 month program where YOU can immerse yourself in the creative process of a NEW choreography study for STAGE PERFORMANCE or a new short DANCE FILM study.

During one month, participants will be guided and mentored by Anabella Lenzu, international choreographer and teacher with 35 years of experience.

  • During the weekly encounters online on Saturdays from 11am-1pm (NYC Time), participants will be given prompts to ignite new ideas and challenge their creative process for the creation of new choreographic material.

  • We explore different topics including: Form and Content, Music and Dance relationship, Ritual Vs. Performance, Text and Dance relationship, among others.

  • Through short in-class assignments and extensive work outside of class, participants will investigate the subject matter that they choose to explore in choreography for the stage or film. We look not only at what we dance but also ask the question “Why do we dance?”

  • Each session lasts 2 hours and includes: Focused time on development and experimentation with different techniques of Choreography, exploration and examination of the individual creative process, artistic brainstorming, feedback, as well collaborating with other artists and designers.

  • By exploring different choreographic methodologies (for live performances as well as for an online audience) the artist will work on a new creation expanding their creative toolbox with the end goal of presenting this material online at the end of the mentorship.

  • Besides your personal growth, this will be a unique opportunity to connect with other international artists working with deep intensity and strong vision.

Anabella’s mentoring choreography workshop was the fuel I needed to restart my work. I relished her assignments which were rich and adaptable to the many individuals in class, both professional and student. Anabella is especially adept at facilitating discussion online and generating a desire to create. She is passionate about work and supporting artists to make work and her enthusiasm was motivating and refreshing! This stimulating Composition Lab in practice and theory is a delicious invitation to artists to create with the support of a respected artist and a creative community. I look forward to taking it again!
— Judith Howard Professor of Dance, Chair of Theater and Dance Carleton College, MN
Anabella’s workshop invited a group of movement artists to participate in learning from each other and ourselves in profound ways. Anabella fostered a strong community of artistic support and at the same time offered philosophical, and theoretical guidance by sharing a curated collection of videos and texts. Anabella also made the time to independently provide feedback to participants in outside-of-workshop hours. This feedback was essential to the growth of my choreographic work. I am deeply grateful to Anabella and my fellow workshop participants for the mentorship that they have shared as I’ve sought to cultivate my artistic point of view during the pandemic. I feel energized and supported in ways that I have been intensely craving for some time now.

Anabella is an incredible sourceful and generous teacher and mentor - a force. She guides in a very thought through, invested and honest way, sharing her vast experience with great energy and purpose. And has a name, book or video recommendation for literally everything. She’s deeply caring and passionate about the work always keeping an open student mindset. The choreographic mentorship program is a great format to learn about the art of performance making through seeing and reflecting on other works while creating your own amongst a group of artists from all over the world. I was able to find what and how I want to say as an artist, find expression with courage and trust.

What stood out to me most about Anabella during my choreographic mentorship with her, is her expansive knowledge, passion and attention to detail. I felt that my authentic voice was supported and elevated from her guidance during our sessions. And in-between sessions through homework, related to the type of work I was creating.
She made me consider different angles of my project and helped pin-point specific areas of interest as well as feeding me useful tools to expand my creative toolbox and vocabulary. I would always leave our sessions feeling inspired and ready to dig deeper into my project, and overall creativity. I’m immensely grateful to Anabella for her guidance and many, many lessons, and cannot recommend her enough.
